Despite that 2023 has been a difficult year for the world economy, global production and consumption have increased slightly. Stena Line, Stena Metall as well as Stena Adactum´s companies are struggling with lower demand. Stena AB is on the other hand delivering almost the same profit for 2023 as in 2022. The difference is as small as the profit from the sale of one ship. Stena Metall AB’s profit has reduced remarkably but is still the second best since the very beginning.

Jonas Carlsson started as a trainee at Stena in 1999 and was employed in 2002. Now Jonas works at Office Services and his job involves handling mail and parcel delivery. It’s important for Jonas that everything goes as it should and that no parcels are lost.

STENA OIL´S FIRST BIOFUEL BUNKERING

On October 26, a historic milestone was reached for Stena Oil as they carried out their first biofuel bunkering. This occurred for Dalaro Shipping's vessel Oslo Wave 3, a cargo vessel of 17,485 DWT (Deadweight Tonnage).

Our operations contribute to people being able to meet and goods being transported between Northern Ireland and the mainland. Stena Line has three profitable ferry routes to and from Belfast, and the city is our most significant hub.

SKYREX IN ONE MINUTE

SKYREX, (former S&L Access Systems) owned by Stena AB 75% and Vestas 25%, has developed a unique technology to build much more efficient and taller wind turbines. The crane is erected gradually in segments from the bottom up, while it clings to the tower being built. This means that the crane is scalable and can lift both higher and heavier in a much shorter time, while substantially reducing cost and environmental impact.

A delegation from Stena recently travelled to the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling in Weihai. Simultaneous construction is underway of five Stena vessels at the shipyard – three E-Flexers and two recently ordered NewMax cargo ships.

TWO NEW HYBRID RO-RO SHIPS ORDERED FOR STENA LINE

On behalf of Stena Line, Stena RoRo has designed and ordered two hybrid cargo ships from the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling in Weihai. The ships can be powered by methanol or conventional fuel and have been developed in line with future environmental requirements, for example by using batteries as a future means of propulsion. Major emphasis has been placed on optimizing the cargo capacity, which has been increased by 80%.

STENA RECYCLING TAKES THE LEAD IN BATTERY RECYCLING

On March 30, Stena Recycling inaugurated its first industrial recycling facility for lithium-ion batteries, an investment of a quarter of a billion SEK. It is situated in Halmstad and is one of the first facilities of its kind in Europe. An advanced recycling process makes it possible to recycle 95 percent of an electric vehicle battery. Agreements are already in place with industry partners within both battery and vehicle production, securing a high recycling volume from the start.

NORTHERN MARINE HAS EXPANDED ITS INTERNATIONAL CADET POOL

Future deck officers from Trinidad and Tobago now receiving practical training onboard managed newbuild methanol tankers. STENA FASTIGHETER INVESTS IN ENERGY STORAGE FROM BATTERYLOOP

Stena Fastigheter is making extensive investments in self-generated electricity, among other things to achieve the climate target of halving its carbon footprint by 2030. As a part of this, the company has ordered six BLESS™ I energy storage systems, including service contracts, from BatteryLoop. They will be installed in Gothenburg, Stockholm and Malmö.

STENA DRILLINGS NEW CLOUD-BASED PLATFORM PORTAL

Stena Drilling recently launched a new cloud-based platform for internal staff and clients. ‘Portal’ represents the evolution of Stena Drilling’s data strategy, developed in-house over a six-month period in close collaboration with subject matter experts from across the business.

STENA NORDICA GAINS INCREASED PASSENGER CAPACITY

Stena RoRo is now modifying the ferry Stena Nordica at the Remontowa shipyard in Gdansk, Poland. Stena Line is the client, and the aim is to increase the maximum number of passengers on board. Work began in early January with estimated delivery from the shipyard in mid-March. This summer, the ferry will enter service in the southern Irish Sea corridor between Fishguard and Rosslare.

STENA ALUMINIUM JOINS POLESTAR 0 PROJECT

Stena Aluminium has signed an agreement to join the Polestar 0 project as a development partner. The Polestar 0 project aims to create a completely climate-neutral car by 2030, which means that all sources of carbon emissions throughout the supply chain must be eliminated. As partners, Stena Aluminium and Polestar will develop a commercially viable recycled aluminium alloy produced without carbon emissions.

STENA STÅL AND SSAB PARTNER UP TO PROVIDE FOSSIL-FREE STEEL

SSAB has entered into an agreement with the Swedish steel distributor Stena Stål under which Stena Stål will be the first external distributor to deliver fossil-free steel on
the Swedish market, starting in 2026.

Already in 2005, we decided to invest in wind turbines. Fossil fuels are efficient, but despite all efficiency improvements, they contribute to increasing the CO₂ content in the atmosphere.

At the end of October, it was time for a traditional keel laying ceremony at the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling (Weihai). This time it was Stena RoRo's E-Flexer RoPax ship number ten.

CONTINUED COMMITMENT TO MERCY SHIPS BY STENA RORO

In 2013, Stena RoRo began building the world's largest civilian hospital ship, the Global Mercy. Inaugurated last summer, she has now been deployed by the charity Mercy Ships, which through its two hospital ships provides free healthcare to Africa's poorest. Operations is made possible by volunteers. They pay for flights and living expenses out of their own pockets and work without pay.

STENA BULK INSTALLS CARBON CAPTURE SYSTEM ON MR TANKER

Stena Bulk is gearing up its sustainability focus by installing a mobile carbon capture system on the company’s IMOIIMAX tanker Stena Impero. When up and running,
the equipment is expected to capture 1,000 kg of CO2 per hour, equivalent to the emissions from 100 petrol-powered cars over the same amount of time.

Stena Metall Group has several companies that are active in different areas. Every day, these companies work successfully and create value. In some projects, the Group's different companies come together to meet the challenge ahead. One example of such cooperation is the repair of the tank that Stena Oil took over from Stena Recycling. The work was done with steel plates supplied by Stena Stål.

CIRCULAR INITIATIVE

Spirits were high when the Circular Initiative on May 5th once again could gather a physical audience at this year's event. At the same time, over 1500 people were registered as an online audience. Industry partnerships and growing demand for circular products and solutions were a common theme throughout the program.

HOSPITAL SHIP GLOBAL MERCY INAUGURATED

Since 2013, Stena RoRo has been designing and building the world's largest civilian hospital ship. The project is now complete and the Global Mercy ready for its life-changing work in the service of the charity Mercy Ships. Per Westling, CEO of Stena RoRo, and his colleagues are very pleased with the outcome of the multi-year and complex project, in which several of them have been deeply involved.

HOW STENA FASTIGHETER WILL PRODUCE ITS OWN ELECTRICITY

High electricity prices are an issue that has been widely discussed in 2022, both by individuals and those in management groups. Stena Fastigheter is now stepping up investments in own solar cells in order to produce more local electricity.

SUSTAINABILITY WORK AT STENA DRILLING

Like the other business units, Stena Drilling works on four focus areas as the basis for our sustainability work. These four focus areas are the environment, safety & security, people, and society. Thereafter, objectives and targets are formulated and linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

At Stena Line, we have taken the view that any approach to sustainability focused solely on environmental factors is too narrow. Our commitment to a more sustainable future takes on a broader understanding, one that is based on care: care for our customers, care for our resources, and care for each other. As an organisation and as individuals, we must contribute to a better future, and to make a difference in whichever way we can.

FAMILY DAY AT LISEBERG

On Sunday September 18, it was time once more for all Stena employees and their families to gather for a day together at the Liseberg amusement park in Göteborg.
