On behalf of Stena Line, Stena RoRo has designed and ordered two hybrid cargo ships from the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling in Weihai. The ships can be powered by methanol or conventional fuel and have been developed in line with future environmental requirements, for example by using batteries as a future means of propulsion. Major emphasis has been placed on optimizing the cargo capacity, which has been increased by 80%.

Stena RoRo is now modifying the ferry Stena Nordica at the Remontowa shipyard in Gdansk, Poland. Stena Line is the client, and the aim is to increase the maximum number of passengers on board. Work began in early January with estimated delivery from the shipyard in mid-March. This summer, the ferry will enter service in the southern Irish Sea corridor between Fishguard and Rosslare.

In 2013, Stena RoRo began building the world's largest civilian hospital ship, the Global Mercy. Inaugurated last summer, she has now been deployed by the charity Mercy Ships, which through its two hospital ships provides free healthcare to Africa's poorest. Operations is made possible by volunteers. They pay for flights and living expenses out of their own pockets and work without pay.

Stena RoRo is collaborating with the American shipping and logistics group Crowley on a project for the purchase of ships for the United States Maritime Administration (MARAD). With the aid of Stena Bulk, Concordia Maritime has also recently signed a contract whereby Crowley is bareboat chartering the P-MAX vessel Stena Polaris.

The conversion of the ferry Saga (formerly the Stena Saga) into an accommodation vessel has been completed over a two-month period in Piraeus, Greece and the vessel is now on its way to Manila in the Philippines. There she will be used for just over a year, among other things, for accommodations during the construction of Manila's new international airport.

Stena RoRo, together with Serco and Life Cycle Engineering, is part of the project team that will be carrying out the assignment. The project will be conducted over a period of several years.

The Galicia, the first of three ships in the E-Flexer class ordered by Brittany Ferries was delivered on September 3. The vessel is the third E-Flexer of nine ordered by Stena RoRo from the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling (Weihai). The Galicia will be chartered by Brittany Ferries on a long-term basis and has been especially adapted to the wishes of the French ferry company.

Conversion of the former ferry Stena Superfast X is currently underway in Pireaus in Greece. The customer is the French shipping company Corsica Linea, which provides service on the Marseille — Corsica — North Africa route. Stena RoRo received the order in December and delivery is expected after a scant five months, as early as mid-June. The conversion includes a general freshening-up and adaptation of the interior, as well as repainting, expansion of the number of cabins and installation of hybrid scrubbers.

The Tianjin Xingang Shipyard in north-eastern China is building the Global Mercy – the world's largest civilian hospital ship. Heading the project is Stena RoRo, commissioned in 2014 by the international aid organisation Mercy Ships. The vessel has now been launched and the equipment phase with wiring, piping and interior fittings is underway. Stena RoRo has 16 employees at the shipyard to monitor the complex project.

This past January in the city of Weihai in northern China, two ceremonies were held at the shipyard AVIC. From 2016-2018, Stena RoRo placed orders for a total of eight RoPax E-Flexer model ships from this shipyard, and now it was time to launch the first and lay the keel for the third ship in the series.

Stena RoRo has purchased the RoPax-vessel Yamato from the Japanese shipping company Hankyu Ferry. The vessel will be rebuilt at a shipyard in Europe and be fully adapted to European standards, after which it will be chartered out. This process will begin in spring 2020 and is estimated to be in traffic by the summer.

At the beginning of February, a keel laying ceremony was held for the first of a total of four new RoPax ferries at AVIC Welhai Shipyard in northeast China. Stena RoRo is leading the construction of the four ferries ordered by Stena in April 2016 and with delivery planned for 2019 and 2020. Three of the ferries will sail in Stena Line’s route network. The keel laying ceremony is the starting signal for the construction phase where the hull and the exterior parts are placed in position.
