U.S. MARITIME ADMINISTRATION

The shipping company Crowley Maritime Corporations has won a tender for services related to the purchase of ships by the U.S. Maritime Administration. Stena RoRo, together with Serco and Life Cycle Engineering, is part of the project team that will be carrying out the assignment. The project will be conducted over a period of several years.

Stena RoRo, with its expertise in the field, will assist in the process of selecting new vessels, will serve as a broker in the project and support finalization of contracts in connection with the purchase of the selected vessels that meet the U.S. Maritime Administration’s specific requirements.

“We contribute both with our knowledge of the market and with our global network in the RoRo sector,” says Ambjörn Fröjd, Commercial Project Manager, Stena RoRo. “In addition, our experience and technical expertise will strengthen cooperation with other parties in the project and thus create additional value”.

“We are really looking forward to the assignment,” says Per Westling, Managing Director, Stena RoRo. “This marks yet another milestone in our ongoing, strong collaboration with Crowley that began in the early 1980s.”

The objective of the purchase of new vessels is to rejuvenate the fleet and increase operational reliability, as well as accessibility.

VISIT AT THE SHIPYARD CMI JINLING IN CHINA

A delegation from Stena recently travelled to the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling in Weihai. Simultaneous construction is underway of five Stena vessels at the shipyard – three E-Flexers and two recently ordered NewMax cargo ships.

TWO NEW HYBRID RO-RO SHIPS ORDERED FOR STENA LINE

On behalf of Stena Line, Stena RoRo has designed and ordered two hybrid cargo ships from the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling in Weihai. The ships can be powered by methanol or conventional fuel and have been developed in line with future environmental requirements, for example by using batteries as a future means of propulsion. Major emphasis has been placed on optimizing the cargo capacity, which has been increased by 80%.

STENA NORDICA GAINS INCREASED PASSENGER CAPACITY

Stena RoRo is now modifying the ferry Stena Nordica at the Remontowa shipyard in Gdansk, Poland. Stena Line is the client, and the aim is to increase the maximum number of passengers on board. Work began in early January with estimated delivery from the shipyard in mid-March. This summer, the ferry will enter service in the southern Irish Sea corridor between Fishguard and Rosslare.

KEEL LAYING FOR HAPPINESS AND PROSPERITY

At the end of October, it was time for a traditional keel laying ceremony at the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling (Weihai). This time it was Stena RoRo's E-Flexer RoPax ship number ten.

CONTINUED COMMITMENT TO MERCY SHIPS BY STENA RORO

In 2013, Stena RoRo began building the world's largest civilian hospital ship, the Global Mercy. Inaugurated last summer, she has now been deployed by the charity Mercy Ships, which through its two hospital ships provides free healthcare to Africa's poorest. Operations is made possible by volunteers. They pay for flights and living expenses out of their own pockets and work without pay.
