STENA OIL'S NEW SHIP EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS
At the end of February, Stena Oil's new ship the Vingaren arrived at Donsö in the Gothenburg archipelago.
The ship has a deadweight tonnage of 5,600 and can carry a volume of nearly 6,200 cubic meters. This means double the size of the previous largest vessel in the fleet.
“The Vingaren has been operational for a few months now and has so far exceeded our expectations both in terms of capacity, operation and function,” says Jonas Persson, President of Stena Oil. “The ship is a very good complement to our already successful operations and makes us even more competitive.”
The Vingaren is specially designed to meet new needs for different types of fuel in shipping. The ship will be able to handle up to six different types of fuel simultaneously through a system of separate tanks. The focus of the Vingaren project has been quality, size, flexibility and speed.
“Before 2015, there were basically only two grades of fuel used in shipping,” says Jonas Persson. “Now, with the new sulfur regulations in different areas, it is crucial that we can offer our customers flexibility and speed. Trading takes place on a spot market and it is not possible to predict from day to day, what customers will be asking for.”
Additionally, the ship sets a new standard for bunkering vessels in terms of sustainability and is equipped with diesel-electric propulsion.
