Stena Leadership Program, Ready 4 Anything
THE NETWORK ALWAYS WINS – THE NETWORKS ARE THE NEW GOLD MINES
Working with networks is an effective way of sharing knowledge and discovering new challenges and opportunities – which is absolutely crucial in an increasingly complex and fast-moving business environment. Through the program The Network Always Wins, which is a part of the leadership program Ready 4 Anything, Stena's leaders gain inspirational and educational insight into the benefits of the network approach.
A virtually gigantic flow of information in combination with a rapidly changing business environment places new demands on the leaders of the future. A good way of quickly acquiring knowledge and discovering new challenges and opportunities is to build, nurture and support new and existing networks.
“As a leader, this means that you need to become more of an ‘influencer’ and ‘networker’ instead of ‘director’,” says Margareta Jensen Dickson, Group Head of People, Stena Line and one of those responsible for the module. “The title of the course itself says a lot about what it’s about – that it is through working in networks that you best succeed.”
The interactive course, which is divided into four two-hour sessions, is held using the digital tool Zoom. The course can be done from home and the only thing you need is a computer and a link before the training starts.
“Zoom is much like Skype, but more modern and more reliable,” says Margareta Jensen Dickson. “One advantage is that you can divide the group into smaller groups that can work in parallel. You can also present things visually, such as with a digital whiteboard.”
In addition to herself, Karin Gelkén, HR Manager for Stena Line Scandinavia and Claes Berglund, Director of Public Affairs Stena AB, have created the course in collaboration with external training coordinator Lorensbergskonsulterna.
“The idea is that the course should be an injection, fun, inspirational and thought-provoking,” Karin Gelkén. “Compared to the other modules, it’s also a little more easy-going. You can even do it sitting at home on your sofa if you like.”
The first course started in November and will continue until the end of January, but Josefin Södergård, Head of Strategic Capabilities, Stena AB and Janine Sjöö, Head of Employee Experience at Stena Line have already held the first pilot course.
“I became aware of the power of my own network, but also of the importance of maintaining it,” says Josefin Södergård. “In my role, I’m very dependent on the input regarding what is happening outside the company. I enjoy sharing and it also means that I get a lot back.”
Both she and Janine Sjöö warmly recommend the course and hope that more people will discover the benefits of actively networking.
“Networks provide a gold mine of information, knowledge, different perspectives, energy and opportunities for collaboration,” says Janine Sjöö. “But it does not come free. You have to nurture and maintain your networks, expand them with new perspectives, knowledge or even new sources of energy. Another nice thing about networks is that they can be utilized both in a job context and privately.”
THE NEW LEADERSHIP PROGRAM READY 4 ANYTHING FURTHER DEVELOPS STENA’S LEADERS FOR THE FUTURE
Leaders at Stena are responsible for further developing the capabilities of their employees, the business and themselves, which requires new skills as the business environment evolves. The new leadership program Ready 4 Anything (R4A) is another step on the road to honing the skills of Stena’s leaders so that they can fully exploit the opportunities of the future. The program is divided into six modules, which are conducted on a continuous basis and addressed to all leaders at Stena.
