Stena is continuing to offer its leaders opportunities to refine their skills with the help of the Ready 4 Anything leadership program (R4A). During the autumn, several physical courses will start up again after the pandemic break. In parallel with this, several digital courses will also be held, including the new module Push your boundaries.

Navigating a rapidly changing, complex and uncertain world requires a special type of leadership. The course The Unknown Unknown, which is part of Stena's leadership program Ready 4 Anything, is about creating a platform and approach that allows us to prepare for things we don't even know we don't know.

Working with networks is an effective way of sharing knowledge and discovering new challenges and opportunities – which is absolutely crucial in an increasingly complex and fast-moving business environment. Through the program The Network Always Wins, which is a part of the leadership program Ready 4 Anything, Stena's leaders gain inspirational and educational insight into the benefits of the network approach.

EXPLORING THE GOLDEN MINDS

Diversity is becoming an increasingly important factor for businesses to be able to develop and be innovative in a fast-moving environment. But a business characterised by diversity also places new demands on leadership. Through the training Exploring the Golden Minds, which is part of the leadership program Ready 4 Anything, Stena's leaders will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge in the field.

ENVISIONING THE FUTURE

In an increasingly fast-moving world, it is important to keep track on what is happening in the outside world to capture future threats and opportunities. Envisioning the Future, one of the modules included in Stena's Ready 4 Anything leadership program highlights new technologies, behaviours, megatrends and scenarios that will impact the business – and how to create new exciting business opportunities based on that.

SUCCESSFUL LEADERSHIP

To be able to create added value in a rapidly changing world and unlock the potential of the digital transformation currently in progress, we must acquire knowledge from several different sources. At the same time, it is important to focus fully on our current business. An important part of the solution is networking and collaboration – both internally at Stena but above all with external parties.

NEW WAYS OF WORKING DELIVER SUCCESS

Stena has a long tradition of entrepreneurship and innovative work, which will continue to be important to develop in the future. In a world where the rate of change is increasingly rapid and where new business opportunities are being created with new technology, companies will need to be good at developing their existing business at the same time as they have the ability to create business opportunities in new business areas with new technology. If we are to be able to successfully handle both, we will need to develop our leadership and ways of working.

STENA LEADERS’ MENU

Using the new training and inspiration forum Stena Leaders’ Menu, leaders and specialists can find inspiration and training courses/programs in a variety of areas. Several new courses/programs that enable leaders and specialists to develop themselves will start up during the autumn.

GROW - DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP FOR THE FUTURE

The GROW program is now in full swing and two of this year’s five training/educational programs have been completed. The program is aimed at middle management and specialists who are ready to develop their leadership to the next level.

CONTINUED INVESTMENTS IN TRAINING DURING THE YEAR

The investments in training are continuing this year. An alumni meeting for participants from the Stena Leadership Program will be held in March and the leadership program Grow for middle management and specialists will start the following month. It is now also possible to apply for the first courses in the Stena Leader’s Menu.

THIS IS HOW EMPLOYEES AND THE BUSINESS SHOULD CONTINUE TO DEVELOP

Next year, a new leadership program will be started for a further 100 employees. In addition, a “Leader’s menu” will be created with complementary programs, seminars and courses.

STENA DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION LAB

As we could read in the previous number of SfärNytt, the investment in new ways of working to create success continues. Stena Digital Transformation Lab is part of this and will seize future opportunities through collaboration across borders.

EXPLORING NEW OPPORTUNITIES

Stena Digital Transformation Lab is exploring new opportunities for future business utility through digital transformation. One of the lab’s focus areas at the moment is Blockchain with an on-going project during the spring on the initiative of Erik Möller, Stena Bulk’s representative at the lab.

NEW TECHNOLOGY AND WAYS OF WORKING PAVE THE WAY FOR NEW BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

Alexa, Siri and Cortana. Probably names you have heard of and in some cases have used. They are all names of Chatbots transforming our way of working and interacting with our customers. A Chatbot is a computer program that simulates human conversation through voice commands or text chats or both. How can we then use this new technology within Stena? Stena Digital Transformation Lab created a proof of concept (PoC) together with Stena Fastigheter, using new technology in a new business through new way of working. This PoC was called Hom-E and was delivered beginning of September.

HOW TO DEVELOP EMPLOYEES AND POTENTIAL FOR THE FUTURE

Stena’s most important asset and prerequisite for success in the future is its employees.
A comprehensive program is now being started up in order to make visible both skills and development potential in the Sphere. The program covers all employees in shipping, business administration and finance, starting at management level.

TAILOR-MADE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS

During the year, 120 managers and specialists at Stena AB will attend a global leadership pro-gram. The program, which is both a way of developing competence and making visible development potential, has been specially designed for Stena and is very much linked to business acumen.

CREATING KNOWLEDGE GROWTH THROUGHOUT THE ORGANISATION

The first group have completed Stena’s leadership program. “It is extremely inspiring when so many people participate in the program at the same time and this will quite clearly result in higher quality”, says Johan Edelman, Route Onboard Service Manager Germany.

JOB ROTATION A BIG ADVANTAGE FOR STENA LINE NETWORK & FLEET

Stena Line Network & Fleet is a small department but it is strategically very important. Job rotation has resulted in a valuable skillset in order to be able to develop and optimise Stena Line’s traffic system, consisting of ferry services, ships and ports, both in the short and long term.
